This year as part of my reflection time, I am going to read Tim Keller’s devotional The Songs of Jesus: A Year of Daily Devotions in the Psalms. As a musician, I gravitate to words and melodies that strike a chord in people’s hearts. King David was one of the greatest songwriters in history, and the joy, heartache, and suffering in his words resonates with many people today. I am looking forward to this devotional by Tim and his wife Kathy. Even more so, I am excited to reflect on these songs, and pray they will move me to great lengths as a follower of Christ. These words from Psalm 1 are taken from the NET Bible –
How bless is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! Instead he finds pleasure in obeyings the Lord’s commands; he meditates on his commands day and night. He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts. Not so with the wicked! Instead they are like wind-driven chaff. For this reason the wicked cannot withstand judgment, nor can sinner join the assembly of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.
